Some more information about Matt:
Matt Hikida (he/they) is a farmer in Monroe, ME. He uses sustainable practices to grow a variety of vegetables, such as cabbages, carrots, and edamame, and is experimenting with growing rice and buckwheat. His farm is called Yonsei Fields, “Yonsei” being a Japanese diasporic word for the fourth generation of Japanese immigrants. Matt’s family has a complicated history with farming, as his great-grandparents came to Canada from an agricultural part of Japan and his grandparents were interned on a sugar beet farm in Alberta during World War 2. He has found it meaningful to reclaim farming for himself and to make food inspired by his Asian-American upbringing with the vegetables…
